Allergy Info

Gluten and Wheat

This cookbook is completely free of wheat and other gluten foods. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and Barley. This cookbook does not use those ingredients. Oats do not contain gluten, but can be contaminated with gluten grains growing in the same field. Gluten free oats can be purchased that do not have this problem, so Gluten free oats are used in this cookbook.

Dairy and Eggs

Dairy products and eggs are not used in the ingredients for the recipes in this cookbook. Any recipes that are creamy are nut based or other non-dairy based cream.

We also do not use most fake dairy products as most of those contain ingredients that bother some MSG sensitive people. Plain rice milk is usually fine for MSG sensitive people, but soy milks, fake sour creams and fake cheeses usually contain chemicals, preservatives, MSG, or something else we cannot eat.

See our discussion on "Is it Vegan" for more information on our use of the term vegan.

Soy

A few recipes have soy products, but the majority are soy free. We do not use any soy sauce or similar type of product, so most recipes will be fine for soy allergies. There are a few recipes using some soy, like tofu, but there are not many and those recipes can be avoided, still leaving the majority of the recipes in the book for those who avoid soy.

Corn

Some recipes contain corn, but the majority do not. We made these recipes with allergies in mind. Though this cookbook does use some corn, we tried to make most recipes available to those who may also need to avoid corn. A person with a corn allergy or sensitivity could avoid those recipes and still have lots of recipes to use.

Peanuts

There are a small amount of recipes containing peanuts, but the majority do not use peanuts. Whenever we could we used other nuts in consideration of peanut allergies and sensitivities. There are a few recipes that are more appropriate with peanuts like "Peanut Sauce" and these do call for peanuts, but there are not very many and a person with a peanut allergy could simply avoid those few recipes and have the majority of the recipes to choose from. It may also be possible to switch almonds or almond butter for peanuts.

Tree Nuts

Yes, we do use tree nuts. Many recipes use tree nuts for the creamy flavor. It may be possible to use seeds like sunflower seeds in these recipes for those allergic to tree nuts, but we have not tried all those options. Also a person may try substituting their own non-dairy, tree nut free creams or sauces. Nuts are a common allergen we do use quite a bit.

Shellfish or Seafood

No shellfish or seafood in these recipes. We do not even use fish sauce or other seafood in these recipes.
